Knights of Columbus

WHY DO I WANT TO JOIN THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS?

The Knights of Columbus are bound by our principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. We Knights have accomplished a great deal. These accomplishments reach into our family, our Church, our community, and yes, our fraternity. Our deeds and our history justify our pride.

We are one of the greatest Catholic, family, and fraternal, service organizations in the world. We have just over 1.8 million Catholic men and their families in over 14,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Guam, Guatemala, Poland, Panama, and Puerto Rico.

One can easily highlight the Order’s efforts in serving our Church, however, the strength of the Order is at the grassroots - the efforts of our members and our councils. Participation in our council is the first step in doing more for the Church globally as well as building a better world for the future.

Here at St. Felix/St. Agnes Council #881 in Wabasha we have a total of 58 members. Some of our members have over 55 years of service, and all of our members contribute to our success as a council just as our Founder, Blessed Michael McGivney (1852-90) – Apostle to the Young, Protector of Christian Family Life and Founder of the Knight of Columbus intercede for Us.

Father McGivney looked for a way to revitalize and strengthen the faith of the men of his parish, St. Marys in New Haven, Conn. He saw them drifting from the practice of faith, sometimes drawn away by anti-Catholic benefit societies, and in need of fraternal support in living out their vocations as husbands and fathers. He didn’t begin with rules and regulations but rather with the Gospel, which he summarized in just a few words. He began with Charity and Unity and Fraternity was added several years later.

Charity, Unity, Fraternity, would you like to exemplify these Gospel principles of holiness and intimacy with God? Would you like to be a Sir Knight?
