2nd Grade Sacrament Parent Letter

January 26, 2021

Dear Parents of Second Graders,

It is time to begin the important preparation for the Holy Sacraments of First Confession and First Communion.  Your child’s teacher has been preparing your child for the sacraments during religion at St. Felix School or in Faith Formation classes. As parents, you will need to reinforce prayers and answer any questions they may have. Included in this packet is the timeline of the necessary activities and parental resources about the sacraments, sacramental registration information form, and prayers for this age group.

Memorized Prayers for the Sacraments

We are asking families to pray these prayers together daily at meals and before going to bed. As the date gets closer to First Reconciliation, added emphasis should be on the Act of Contrition.

The Clothing and Pictures for First Communion

The girls are asked to wear a white dress with shoulders covered; veils and gloves are optional. The boys are asked to wear dress pants, black or blue, and a white shirt with a tie. On the resource page are websites for First Communion clothing and gifts.

Prayer Partners

Someone in our parish has volunteer to pray for your child as they prepare for the sacraments. They will send notes of encouragement and prayers.  The notes are delivered through St. Felix School or Faith Formation. The person remains anonymous until shortly before 1St Communion.

 Parish Gift

St. Felix and St. Agnes cluster give a gift from the parish to each child. This gift includes a First Communion book and rosary in black for boys and white for girls.

 Learn about the Catholic Faith

Parents, if any of you are not Catholic and you would like to become a member of the Catholic faith and make your First Communion at Easter, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes are taught at St. Felix Church. These sessions are a causal and meaningful way to learn about the Catholic faith.  Please pray about coming into full communion with the Catholic Church and joining RCIA to deepen your understanding of our faith!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either of us.

Sincerely,
