E-News from Father Frerichs
July 2 , 2010
Dear Friends in Christ,
As we bring June to a close, I wanted to take some time to share a few happenings with you.
Parish Happenings:
- This weekend we will start praying our prayer for families during Mass. This year is meant to include both nuclear and extended families. Mother Theresa once said that the family who prays together, stays together. What a tremendous “gift” and “responsibility” parents have in raising their children. The Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. This includes teaching them about the faith, guiding their growth in prayer and understanding of God, and helping them to recognize where God is present in their life throughout the day. I recently visited a family who asked each family member around the dinner table each evening how God had blessed their day - what a neat way to bring God into the meal…. As a parish, we can help parents facilitate that growth, but God has them given that gift and grace. Printed below is the text of the prayer we will be praying after Communion for the next three months, or so. In the future we will also shift to other prayers. There will be copies of this text in the back of the church or you can print it off from here.
Mother Teresa's Prayer for the Family
Heavenly Father, You have given us a model of life in the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Help us, O loving Father, to make our family another Nazareth where love,
peace, and joy reign.May it be deeply contemplative, intensely Eucharistic, and vibrant with joy.
Help us to stay together in joy and sorrow through family prayer. Teach us
to see Jesus in the members of our family, especially in their
distressing disguise.May the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus make our hearts meek and humble like
His and help us to carry out our family duties in a holy way.
May we love one another as God loves each one of us more and more
each day, and forgive each others' faults as You forgive our sins.
Help us, O loving Father, to take whatever You give and to give whatever
You take with a big smile.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
Holy Guardian Angels, be always with us,
guide and protect us. Amen.

- Please keep Dr. Ray Kasper, who will be buried Thursday at 11 a.m. in prayer. Ray was a dentist in Wabasha for many years. He was 99 years old and leaves a legacy of eight children.
- There is exciting news about our parishes on the internet and communications front. Our parish cluster is now ready to publically launch its new website. The site has been in the works for some time and manages both parishes. It can be accessed through two addresses: www.stfelixchurch.org and www.stagneskellogg.org. On this website you will find lots of information including: various organizations, parish news, past bulletins and Enews articles, our parish calendar, links to other sites for children, teens and adults, and more. Check it out and please let us know if something does not work or needs to be changed. Our new Parish Life Coordinator (Julie Miller) has created the site and will keep it up-to-date as time goes along. Thank you Julie!!! Once again, please check us out and offer Julie a word of appreciation the next time you see her.
- Some people have been asking what my new home phone number is in case of an emergency. The number is 651-565-4578.
- Also, people have been asking when the bulletin cover will be updated to include John Miller and Julie Miller’s name. The cover of the bulletin is printed in bulk. Changes on the bulletin cover should occur in August. Sorry about the inconvenience.
- Last Sunday another Serra Club meeting was held. It began with a Holy Hour for vocations at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital. We thank Saint Elizabeth’s for their hospitality and for providing us with the opportunity to have some of the residents join us for prayer. Our Wabasha County Serra club currently has about 20 members and will need at least 25 to become an international charter member. It is a wonderful organization which exists to promote vocations, show support to our priest and religious, and to nourish each other in prayer and conversation. Some of the activities they are currently preparing are a July golf outing with several priests in Rochester, a picnic in Winona in August and the possibility of an area boat outing in the Fall. You can learn more about Serra by contacting the parish office or Tom Peyla.
- Last but not least, the local Padre is wondering if there is anyone who would like to take him up on an offer to help fix a portion of his new living space. There is a cellar door on the river side which let a significant amount of rain into the basement recently and thus needs to be replaced. This would not be a large project for someone with some carpentry skills and equipment. If anyone thinks he may be interested, I would be happy to look through what is there…
Church News:
- Fr. Patrick Arens is moved into his new home in Chatfield .... let the unpacking begin…..
On a Personal Note:
What bigger news could there be than that the official launching of the kayak. There were a few people gathered around with my parents, my Sister, her two children, and me to witness this most august event. Needless to say the boat did float. However, I will need to watch my speed in those no wake zones. The fish have all been stopping to take a second look as I paddle by. Printed below are a few pictures to help you capture the day.
Paul Irlbeck and me carrying it to the river.
Nephew Skylor admiring the work.
Mom had the honor of Christening and titling her Tranquility.
Heading out to sea
The first voyage
In Christ,
